A History of New Hope Baptist Church West
Wednesday evening, May 15, 2002, fifty-nine Christians took folding chairs to an empty house east of Duncan to pray seeking God's direction in their lives. By the next morning, the group had called Rev. Randy Southerland to be its leader and had stepped out in faith to organize a church.

Under the leadership of God, they arranged to meet for a worship service on Sunday, May 19, 2002. In a matter of hours God directed them to the completely furnished but unused Banner Assembly of God property at 5450 West Beech Avenue. By Sunday, God had provided a part-time music director, as well as people to play the instruments and operate the sound system.

The building was filled to capacity for the first service. Sunday School classes for all ages were organized during that week: the first Sunday School was held on May 26, 2002, with more than 250 attending.

The church was organized as New Hope Baptist Church West with 274 charter members. Soon after its organization, the church voted to build a new facility and , under the direction of our new building committee, property was acquired between 42nd Street and Highway 7 bypass. Ground breaking took place on May 11, 2003 and on March 20th, 2005 the congregation spent its first Sunday in the new facility at 200 South 42nd Street with seating for approximately 1000 persons.

On Easter Sunday the building was filled to capacity, and Dedication Day, April 17, we witnessed another capacity crowd as we celebrated together the blessings of God and dedicated ourselves, our building, and our instruments to His glory. Guests for Dedication Day included Dr. Jeff Moore, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Altus Director of Missions Jerry Couch Safely Anchored Gospel Trio Dr. Bill Green, Associate Executive Director, BGCO Linda Green, Organist, Quail Springs Baptist Church, OKC and Max Lyall, Pianist, First Baptist Church, OKC. We welcomed the public with an afternoon open house and concerts in the afternoon and the evening worship time.

God has grown New Hope Baptist Church West from that charter membership of 274 to a membership of over 850. We welcome people to join us each week as we continue "Growing Together in Christ."
